My inspiration

Back in November of 2004, I ran my first 5K. I remember it vividly. It was the Run With the Saints 5K, the target race of 9 week Power in Motion program. I don't remember my time. I have it written down somewhere. I just remember how great it felt to accomplish something I never really thought before that I could do. As I was driving away after the race, big smile on my face, this song was playing on the radio. It's kind of been my "running theme song" ever since. Sometimes I'm tempted to give in to the lies that my own concscience is telling me. Or lies that the world tries to tell. Stuff like "you can't run, you're too heavy. You're not a runner, you're too slow to be called a runner." Lies like "this is too hard. You've been overweight too long. You can't change. Who do you think you're kidding?" This song reminds me that I don't have to listen to those lies.

I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of Truth

The kind of strength it takes
to stand before a giant
With just a sling and a stone

Surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors
Shaking in their armor
Wishing they'd have had the strength to stand

But the giant's calling out my name
And he laughs at me
Reminding me of all the times

But the stone was just the right size
To put the giant on the ground
And the waves they don't seem so high
On top of them lookin' down
I will soar with the wings of eagles
When I stop and listen to the sound of Jesus
Singing over me
