A bad one

Some days you've got it. Some days you don't. I'm not going to sweat it. My 17-miler yesterday was not a good run. Don't know why. I felt good through about 12 miles but fell apart running back along Allen Parkway. I think I need to get reacclimated to the heat and the sun beating down on my head and shoulders.

One thing good that came out of the post 13 mile crash is I practiced a new strategy. Last January, when the urge to quit came, I stopped a lot. Yesterday, I decided when the going got tough to at least do 5/1's a la JulyBug. Rather than just stopping completely and bending over with my hands on my knees, like I wanted to do, I kept putting one foot in front of the other. And even though I was reduced to a jog, I didn't waste any time at a dead standstill.

Frankly, I wish I was in Cincinatti, training in 30 degree temps on the hills and the course that I'm going to be doing the marathon on, getting familiar with the terrain and feeling a little more comfortable about the course. We are planning a tour of the course on Saturday. A driving tour of course. :o)

I'm not real confident in my fitness right now and have a lot of doubts about the marathon. Only this time, I know that's normal. I think my one shot at a stellar race is to be about 12-15 lbs lighter by the time the gun sounds. So, I'm really goign to be concentrating on my calories and nutrition between now and May 6. Hopefully, that will give me the edge I need to PR.

Somtimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't...

Kinda warm out there yesterday. Ugh. Sounds like you did a great job persevering. Cincinnati weather will help tremendously.

I'll be praying for you, buddy... I'm in the same boat! I know that my extra pounds are contributing to my bad shin that's simply not getting better. I know that losing the extra weight will make a difference...I know I need to be running to lose the extra weight. If I take a month off to heal, I'll end up with more extra pounds on my frame!

So my plan is to run as easy as I can so I can keep on running and try as hard as I can to eat the way I should. When you're struggling to eat right, please think of me and pray for strength for me too!!

i had a hard time too, but mine was due to no food. i got really dizzy once and had to stop, thought i was actually going to pass out. the 5 coming back in were better for me than the front 5.

keep it up! you will be fine!

"...wish I was in Cincinnati." As someone who used to travel monthly to Cincy for work I got a good laugh out of that one. No....don't make me go back....!

Now you need to figure out how to get it in your head to be confident. There will be plenty of time for doubts after the race - right now is for psyching yourself up that you can do it!

Trust me, Vic. You don't want to be anywhere near 30 degree temps. I'm so ready for spring!! I'm a bit jealous that it's so warm already for you. I'm a summer girl 24/7.

Sorry it was a tough at the end..but, good job in pushing through it. The temps are already getting to me, and it's only March!

Great job pushing through on the end. It's funny you mentioned losing weight because as I iced my leg today I realized that I have to lose some pounds to be able to run any longer distances. I will be cheering for you!

Vic,
It's Thursday, you have a marathon you are training for and you have not posted any training. Hopefully you are training and will bring us up to speed on your efforts. Can I offer you some street ice.
